At MSAA, we are committed to providing exceptional site safety, rigging, and support services customized for film and television productions. Since 1991, Mountain Skills Academy & Adventures (MSAA) has established itself as a leader in mountain guiding and instruction in the Sea to Sky Corridor and Coast Mountain region. As the premier year-round guiding service in British Columbia, we employ exclusively certified guides to ensure the highest standards of safety and expertise.
Who We Are
Based in Whistler and Squamish, MSAA’s team of site safety specialists and guides possess extensive experience in various film and television productions, as well as events. We are fully insured with comprehensive liability coverage and hold permits to conduct guiding activities in BC Parks and Crown Land across the Sea to Sky Corridor and Coast Mountain region.
Our guides and riggers are highly certified by the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) and the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA). They are recognized internationally as experts in mountain safety and bring significant experience from the film industry to ensure your production is both safe and successful.
Services
MSAA leverages a vast network of mountain safety experts to offer a range of services tailored to your production needs:
- Mountain & Wilderness Safety Coordination: We oversee overall safety for your production in all types of terrain. A Mountain Safety leader will coordinate a dedicated safety crew to protect both the film crew and talent.
- Mountain Safety: Our experienced staff and guides work closely with your team to maintain a secure production environment, including terrain assessment, avalanche risk assessment, safety rigging, and fall protection.
- Technical Consulting and Location Scouting: Our climbers and mountain professionals provide the technical knowledge and real-life expertise necessary for creating authentic scenes. We collaborate with local Location Scouts to secure stunning, production-friendly locations.
- Climbing/Skiing/Mountaineering Doubles: Our full-time professional climbers, skiers, and mountaineers bring their extensive real-world experience to enhance your production.
- Safety and Stunt Rigging: We offer comprehensive rigging services for climbing and mountaineering scenes and stunts.
- Crew Mountain Training: Drawing on years of teaching experience in the mountains, we provide practical training for actors and crew, ensuring they can safely operate in mountainous terrain and convincingly portray mountaineers or climbers.
Our Guides
Our guides, certified by the ACMG and internationally recognized by the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA), bring extensive rigging expertise and a strong focus on risk management to every project. While not union-affiliated, our guides maintain a proactive, solution-oriented approach, prioritizing safety and the success of your production.
